How am I at risk when I run Windows as an Administrator?
Administrator gives all programs complete, unrestricted access to every piece of information on your PC. In fact, a program with administrative rights can not only read from or write to any file on your computer, it also has the ability to install additional software, change your hardware or software settings, inspect sensitive or personal information, or even completely erase your hard drive. Windows Explorer (explorer.exe), also sometimes referred to as the File Explorer, Program Manager, or Windows Shell should not be added to the Safe Zone in most cases. Adding Windows Explorer to the Safe Zone effectively demotes almost all subsequent program starts to the Safe Zone. While this might sound good, it can have a usability impact. For example, with Windows Explorer in the Safe Zone, you will be unable to uninstall applications. Running Windows Explorer in the Safe Zone is almost tantamount to simply running Windows as a Limited User.

Windows Live Messenger tells me to log on as an administrator to update but I am an administrator. Is WindowZones affecting this upgrade?
Most likely. If you accepted the default rules, Windows Live Messenger (formerly known as MSN Messenger) will be automatically run in the Safe Zone. By design and for your protection, it will not be able to update itself while it is in the Safe Zone. To apply the update, move Windows Live Messenger to the Admin Zone. Open your web browser and move it to the Admin Zone as well. Go to Microsoft's Live Messenger page at
http://get.live.com/messenger/overview and download the upgrade manually.
